Miley Cyrus has come a long way since her “Hannah Montana” days.

The 19-year-old singer-actress appeared on Lifetime’s “The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet” on Thursday night, and discussed her evolution from a naive child star to an independent and, at times, outspoken, young woman.

Cyrus recalls the backlash she encountered when she released her racy “Can’t Be Tamed” music video during the last season of “Hannah Montana,” saying, “Even just the title of that, for a woman to say she can’t be tamed… for a woman in the world with my face saying ‘I can’t be tamed’ when that’s really all people wanted to do, I think proves how sexist people still really are.”

She adds, “People are so scared of seeing a woman being like, ‘This is who I am and you’re not going to change it.’”

As for how Cyrus began to find her own voice, she divulges, “I feel I was so trained in my interviews to be All-American or whatever. I just got so set in the way of saying the same things I did when I was 12 years old.”

She explains, “I guess I kind of realized that my whole life isn’t one giant press junket. I don’t have to be smiling all the time and always have the perfect answer.”

Cyrus further reveals, “I finally had to look inside and say, ‘What do I really think about this? Do I really think that or am I just trained to say that? Or have I said it for so many years now that that’s what people expect me to say, so now I say it so I don’t have to say something else and be creative?”

Today, the LOL star is much less afraid to speak her mind.

Asked about being called a sex symbol, Cyrus says while it’s certainly not something she set out to become, “I take it as a compliment. Thank you for thinking I’m sexy!”

She also alludes in the conversation to her former relationship with Nick Jonas, admitting, “I had my biggest heartbreak when I was 14,” and offers advice to her 14-year-old self.

Miley Cyrus always seems to be a part of a larger discussion, whether it’s concerning relationships, weight loss, child stardom or music.

But Miley admits she’s sick of putting on a show and is ready to just embrace who she is and let go of what she’s “supposed” to be as a 19-year-old Hollywood star. If you think she’s sexy, good! She’s OK with that.

“If people find that [I am sexy], I take it as a compliment,” Miley revealed in a candid interview on Lifetime‘s The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet last night. “Thank you for thinking I’m sexy!”

Miley is tired of people expecting something from her and just wants to speak her mind and do what makes her happy.

“I feel I was so trained in my interviews to be All-American or whatever,” she explained to Amanda de Cadenet. “I just got so set in the way of saying the same things I did when I was 12 years old. I guess I kind of realized that my whole life isn’t one giant press junket. I don’t have to be smiling all the time and always have the perfect answer.”

And although Miley admitted she has always hated being alone, she started to crave solitude after super stardom became too much.

“I had to smile so much and I had to say so much of the same thing,” Miley admitted. “I finally had to look inside and say, ‘What do I really think about this? Do I really that or am I just trained to say that? Or have I said it for so many years now that that’s what people expect me to say, so now I say it so I don’t have to say something else and be creative.”

Miley also explained that the release of her single “Can’t Be Tamed” was a big moment for her, not only because it presented her in a more mature way, but it made her realize what people really think about sexualization.

“I always say, if I met me, would I really like me? Would you want to be your friend? We always judge people and we put people down about the things that we don’t like about ourselves,” Miley added, saying that she’s sick of young girls basing their self-worth on the sexual standards of our society. “Your worth isn’t based on [sex], your worth is based on how you feel about yourself.”

Last night, Miley worked with Pharrell Williams! He wrote Britney’s Slave 4 U, Boys & Why Should I Be Sad, and he also produced songs for Beyonce. Cris Crab, a music artist who has had music produced by Pharrell – tweeted last night:

Molly Dunne is a 7 year old girl who was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension and HHT. One of her biggest dreams was to meet Miley. Some of Molly’s friends got to meet Miley in Miami – Miley wrote a note to Molly saying “Molly I ♥ you! Feel better sweets!” Miley even called Molly, a few hours before she passed away.

“I’m so sorry to share with everyone that we lost our sweet Molly at 3:30am this morning. She is at peace now with the angels. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. She was an amazingly courageous little girl who fought hard right till the end.”

A friend of Molly’s family shared what Miley did.

“I’m so impressed that Miley took the time to call Molly not once, but twice, and has asked for Molly’s picture to keep with her. Sometimes people really surprise me. It’s nice. Miley was going to fly to Wilmington to see Molly on Friday. I find that amazing. Last night before Molly passed away, Miley called, didn’t get through, checked to make sure she had the right number and called again. Molly’s grand mom Courtney Porstman said that Molly understood who it was on the phone. After the call, they asked Molly if she knew who that was on the phone. She smiled and nodded “yes”. A little touch of joy at a very sad time.”

Miley did all of this out the kindness of her heart – not for any publicity. This just shows how amazing she is as a person and this is one of the reasons why she inspires me. I hope Molly will rest in peace. xoxo

“I’m gonna terrorize my friends and destroy their lives for a day,” “Punk’d” guest host (and former prank victim) Miley Cyrus said before rolling up her sleeves and getting down to business. But with her boyfriend and a double-punk attempt on the agenda, would she succeed?

Before making their way to dinner, “Hunger Games” star Liam Hemsworth and his leading lady stopped at a bank for some cash. Miley dropped off her beau at the ATM and drove the car to the parking lot out back, where two staged streakers tore into it and sent the pop star running for cover. When Liam showed up to the scene, he furiously pounded on the windows and demanded the couple get out. Things went from bad to worse when some useless police officers showed up and tried to lay the blame on the Aussie, and just as it seemed like he would never escape his own personal hell, Liam finally got some relief utter humiliation in the form of a camera crew.

Always one to shake things up, Miley decided pranks No. 2 and No. 3 would be one-in-the-same, and chose Khloe Kardashian and Kelly Osbourne as her victims for Mission: There’s Something About Mary. Kelly was first to arrive at Miley’s house for a girls’ night in. When the delivery guy showed up with Thai food, he asked Miley if he could use her bathroom and she kindly obliged. As the vendor took longer behind closed doors than one generally might, the Fashion Policewoman got concerned and yelled to ask if he was OK. Screams started to erupt from inside the bathroom, and Kelly shouted for Miley to call the police. She seemed calm until the visitor opened the door to reveal that his balls were stuck in his pants’ zipper, and the prognosis was not good. Kelly tried to stay calm while passing along tips from the fake-paramedic on the phone, but looked noticeably perturbed, and when a knock on the front door meant salvation in the form of someone more suited to care for the man, Kelly was pissed to find out she’d been punk’d for a second time. But not so much that she wouldn’t help turn the tables on Khloe!

Wash, rinse, repeat: Khloe maintained tremendous composure while faced with the same hell, and kept the control room laughing by confessing to the paramedic: “I’ve never seen a white penis.” Once the jig was up, Khloe admitted she’d truly been played. Give yourself a pat on the back, Cyrus.

You really look great, Miles! How’d you do that?
Thank you! Well, I made these results thanks to hard training and gluten-free diet. Doctors told me that I should avoid gluten, which I did! In fact, this diet is really simple, I just don’t eat wheat and bread. It was weird at the beginning but I got used to it. I mean, there are a lot of other things to eat, like rice and corn, which I can’t eat without problems.

You are allergic to gluten?
Yes, so this isn’t about weight anymore, I want to stay healthy. I recommend everyone to avoid gluten, you will sense changes on your skin right away! You won’t even wish to go back.

You were recently attacked by a blender I hear?
Yes [laughs]. I really don’t have luck with those devices. I am okay now. Nothing bad, but I always turn out clumsy when it comes to those things!

You train hard, which exercises do you do?
I became addicted to Pilates. It’s really great! Exercises last for an hour and a half with a break of course. I feel a lot better after it! After all the stuff I have to do, Pilates comes like a rest to me. And yeah I forgot to tell – I run in the morning!

You are working on your new album, can you tell us a bit about that?
Yes, I am happy to be working on a new album. I would like to thank all my crew in the studio, it’s not easy for them to cope with me while I’m recording [laughs].

Can we know something about it?
Let it be a secret, but I can tell you that it is going to be a dance, pop, r&b mix with a few songs to cry with.

Are you romantic?
Yes, can’t you tell?!

What do you think of The Hunger Games?
It’s an awesome movie, I watched it a hundred times by now! Can’t wait for the sequel, Liam did a great job with Gale I am proud of him!

How do you deal with distane with him?
Hard! It was hard for him and me and also his brother while he was away filming The Hunger Games.

We saw you got an expensive diamond ring! Are you planning on getting engaged?
No! It’s an old family ring which was worn by my grandma! I love that, old, romantic, “Titanic” style!
